Cultivating Well-Being Through Body and Movement Play

Dr. Caroline P. Cárdenas is a dedicated play researcher and consultant serving helping professionals across healthcare, education, and corporate sectors. With 20 years of experience as an oncology and hospice nurse, she brings a compassionate depth to her work, informed by unique leadership training in Imaginal Psychology at Meridian University. Her doctoral research—The Significance of Play in Restoring Compassion, published on ProQuest—explores how body and movement play helps alleviate compassion fatigue and promotes emotional and psychological well-being.

Drawing on this research, Dr. Cárdenas offers transformative learning experiences that combine imaginative exploration with practical insights into burnout and compassion fatigue. Through workshops, seminars, and leadership coaching, she guides participants to engage the restorative power of play—replenishing empathy, cultivating pro-social connections, and fostering greater resilience. Rooted in both scholarly inquiry and hands-on nursing experience, her approach empowers helping professionals to integrate play into their personal and professional lives, nurturing a deeper sense of joy, well-being, and compassion.

“The most significant aspect of play is that it allows us to express our joy and connect most deeply with the best in ourselves, and in others. As Freud said, life is about love and work, yet play transcends these, infuses them with liveliness and stills time’s arrow. Play is the purest expression of love.”
